**The past few days seem to be having droves of COMMON REDPOLLS arriving at bird feeder yards with their roving gourmet menus.
**Gordon Rattray had a good day
at his Weldon, Albert County feeder yard on Sunday. His resident BROWN CREEPER [Grimpereau
brun] gave some nice photos sharing
one with a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH [Sittelle à poitrine blanche]. COMMON REDPOLL [Sizerin flammé] also increased in number for
Gordon.
**Jane LeBlanc shares photos of
2 of her more colourful male patrons in her St. Martin’s feeder yard to include
a bright male EVENING GROSBEAK [Gros-bec errant] that was part of a group of 6,
and her colourful male NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge] that is still visiting with its
mate. Note the cardinal is perched on
Jane’s Witch Hazel Bush which still appears to be showing late as expected
blooms. Jane also had 30 to 40 COMMON
REDPOLLS pay a visit on Sunday.
**Yvette Richard has been waiting for redpolls to arrive to her Cocagne
yard. They surely arrived convincingly the last few days with a flock of 100
COMMON REDPOLLS arriving and felt her homemade seed-suet blocks were haute cuisine.
** I noticed on Sunday morning that redpolls were jumping into the puffy snow at the edge of the roof. They were not picking at the snow for refreshment but were fluffing up and shaking themselves just as they would if they were splashing in water; maybe we could term it a ‘buffle bath’!
