**Some Bohemian Waxwings are joining us in New
Brunswick.
Aldo Dorio photographed a small group at Hay Island
on Saturday nicely showing their trademark cinnamon undertail covert. We have a
bountiful berry/crabapple crop in New Brunswick this season so we can expect
them to stay with us, with quite possibly more to arrive.
Aldo also photographed two Canada Geese each with a
deviated wing. This could be from a hunting accident but is much more likely to
be the condition known as Angel Wing. This syndrome, where the last joint of
the wing is twisted causing feathers to point away from the body, is uncommon
but regular in Canada Geese. The condition is a permanent deformity that would
make these geese incapable of migrating.
**Brian Stone's photo of the different coloration of
pheasants in yesterday’s edition reminded John Inman of a green male Ring-necked
Pheasant that was visiting his Harvey yard approximately 10 years ago and he shares a
photo he took at that time.
**The Ring-necked
Pheasant photo that was missing from the photo series on the Nature Moncton
Christmas selection that appeared in yesterday’s Nature News edition was added
later in the day. If you wish to see it, scroll back to yesterday’s edition.
