**Katie Girvan had a visit and got a photograph of a pawpaw sphinx moth recently. One of Katie’s photos (of the same specimen) looks worn with scales rubbed off, but this is probably due to the mild trauma of being rescued from a spider web.

(Editor’s note: This is not a common sphinx moth to see in New Brunswick. Nelson Poirier also had a visit from one recently, which is the first time he has ever seen one after many years of operating a moth attractor light. Is this just coincidental, or is this sphinx species becoming more common?)

Nelson Poirier also had a visit from a waved sphinx moth. Both of these species are large moths.

** Bob Blake maintains daily weather statistics at his Second North River home, including morning low temperatures, daily high temperatures, and monthly rainfall. Bob sends a table to compare the statistics of July 2024 with July 2025

Bob’s figures show that from his area, morning and afternoon temperatures were noticeably higher in 2025, but rainfall amount was similar for both months.
