** As circulated yesterday the Nature Moncton Track, Trails and Scat workshop
is postponed until next Sunday afternoon January 31. It is looking like there
will be lots of chance to practice the identifications of tracks and trails this
week with fresh snowfalls.
** Attila Fust had a visit from a RUSTY BLACKBIRD to his Ste. Marie de Kent
feeder yard on Saturday for a first time visit from that species. It came to
ground food, it returned several times over the day. Attila also comments he is
also getting good numbers of PINE SISKINS.
** Peggy Bohus is yet another having REDPOLLS arrive to her Cape Breton Rd.
feeder yard in numbers, they have taken the nyjer feeder as their choice.
** Dave Christie was surprised to hear an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW in song on
Saturday morning, being the first song from a sparrow that he has heard this
winter. Dave comments the REDPOLLS and PINE SISKINS dominate the traffic around
feeders. He did spot the female HOARY REDPOLL he had seen on Thursday however
it's stay was brief.
** To get the scat discussion going before the workshop next Sunday, Brian
Stone shares a photo of deer scat from woods near his home saying they were
jellybean size, which is very helpful in identification from a photo when there
is nothing nearby to judge size.
