Nature Moncton Nature News: May 22 2015

** Janet Cormier paid a visit to the Sackville Waterfowl Park on Thursday and had some great observations and photos. She saw the GLOSSY IBIS [Ibis falcinelle], got a photo of a SORA [Marouette de Caroline] out in open water which has to be a bonus, got great photos of a female BOBOLINK [Goglu des prés], and what appears to be a LEAST SANDPIPER [Bécasseau minuscule].

** Donna Thomas at Steeves Mountain is having visits from a male and female BALTIMORE ORIOLE [Oriole de Baltimore]. The male feeds at a hummingbird feeder even though an oriole nector feeder is nearby. The female prefers to go to an orange half tied to a tree branch tied with a twist tie. Male and female RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS [Carouge à epaulettes] are still patrons as well as newly arrived ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK [Cardinal à poitrine rose].

** Louise Nichols got a photo of one of those difficult to confidently identify without hearing their vocalization empidonax flycatchers a few days ago, and this one did not provide vocalization. David Christie offered an opinion as to which one it may be, suspecting it mostly likely to be a LEAST FLYCATCHER [Moucherolle tchébec] based on the quite prominent eye ring, short primary projection, short beak and general colouration.

** On May 21st, Aldo Dorio got a photo of a female YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER [Paruline à croupion jaune] in a Tamarack tree that is just bursting its needle bundles, as well as an AMERICAN WOODCOCK [Bécasse d'Amérique], both taken at Malpac near Tabusintac.
