** Louise Nichols reports there are lots of happy butterflies
to see the sun of Wednesday around her yard pond in Sackville. Louise got photos
of Atlantis and Great Spangled Fritillary butterflies as well as a Northern
Pearly-eye Butterfly. Louise also observed 8 WHIMBRELS [Courlis corlieu] at
Petit-Cap on Tuesday and got 4 of them in a nice photo.
**Aldo Dorio got a photo of a Confused Haploa , a species that
day flies as well as at night. It is often dark black with large white spots
but Aldo’s is a distinctive brown background colour. The similar Leconte’s
Haploa is also common in New Brunswick.
** Janet Cormier shares photos from over the past week,
including an AMERICAN KESTREL [Crécerelle d’Amérique] with prey, SAVANNAH
SPARROW [Bruant des prés], a handsome GREAT BLUE HERON [Grand Héron], and a
SKUNK with one young in tow.
** I found an excellent cache of HORSE MUSHROOMS just off very
busy Vaughan Harvey Blvd in Moncton on Wednesday. It is early to be seeing
these in any number but the recent wet weather and cool nights have brought them
on. This is a very nice edible.
