**  Rene
Girouard came across a few, quite large GALIUM SPHINX MOTH [Sphinx du
gaillet] caterpillars in his Ste-Marie-de-Kent
garden recently. The colourful caterpillars can be quite variable. One of
their favourite food plants is BEDSTRAW [gaillet].
**  It surely is caterpillar time. Brian Stone
notes several on alder leaves in his yard. They appear to be FALL WEBWORM MOTH
[Chenille à tente estivale] caterpillars, but it as well is quite variable.
Brian also got a photo of one of our colourful TACHINID FLIES [tachinaire] from
his deck on Sunday.
**  The appearance of
bald-headed young-of-the-year BLUE JAYS [Geai bleu] was mentioned recently. i
noted one in my own feeder yard on Sunday. Some photos are attached. Note the
black pin feathers on the head that will soon burst into adult
feathering.
