** Kerry Lee Morris-Cormier advises that things have changed a lot with the shorebirds at Johnson’s Mills, with less than 10,000 roosting at high tide on Wednesday morning. The number of PEREGRINE FALCONS [Faucon pèlerin]  are holding steady at 4, with 3 hunting relentlessly on Wednesday.  Kerry Lee  comments Dave Christie reports the number is similar at Mary’s Point but broken up in different groups. There was PERGRINE FALCON activity at Mary’s Point as well on Wednesday morning.

** Keery Lee advises that Sunday, September 6th is World Shorebird Day and will add the announcement of that below to advise of some local activity to mark the date.
Next Sunday, September 6th is World Shorebirds Day.
Shorebirds are declining worldwide which prompted the creation of a World Shorebirds Day in 2014. On September 6th people gather worldwide to learn about shorebird conservation and take part in shorebird counts.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is organizing a volunteer event at the Johnson’s Mills Shorebird Interpretive Centre near Dorchester, NB from 4pm – 8pm.  A shorebird workshop and BBQ will be provided.    Folks at Hopewell Rocks and Mary’s Point will do a simultaneous count.  Interested participants can register online at www.conservationvolunteers.ca or by calling 1-877-231-4400.

** Lisa Morris had a well-dressed  WHITE TUSSOCK MOTH caterpillar pay a visit to her screen door. There are many caterpillars from various moths and some butterflies about at the moment. Some very colourful specimens like this one.

**The last Saturday visit to Ayers Lake area noted several ferns that we do not often get to see. These included RATTLESNAKE FERN, BLUNT-LOBED GRAPEFERN, LEATHERY GRAPEFERN, AND TRIANGLE GRAPEFERN. there are photos attached today. Some small HOODED LADIES’-TRESSES ORCHIDS  are attached as well. There were patches of RUNNING CLUB MOSS with the candelabra fruiting structure showing. This CLUB MOSS is not uncommonly seen elsewhere in NB. We also saw both the CHECKERED RATTLESNAKE PLANTAIN ORCHID and the DWARF RATTLESNAKE PLANTAIN ORCHID which had some  similarity which I suspect I may have mis-labelled but which will be corrected.
