** No doubt many have noted the fields of yellow blooming plants in some
New Brunswick areas. Lisa Morris took a picture of a field in Bass River, and
I've noted several fields along Rte 126. This is CANOLA, and planting of this
crop agriculturally is increasing in New Brunswick, so we may be seeing more of
these fields of this striking yellow colour. Lisa also took a photo of a FLOWER
LONGHORN BEETLE that perched on the screen.
** Anne Marsch and Brian Stone checked out the Pacific Junction Rd. on
Tuesday. The butterflies ATLANTIS FRITILLARY [Argynne de l'Atlantique], GREAT
SPANGLED FRITILLARY [Argynne cybèle] and NORTHERN PEARLY-EYE [Satyre perlé] were
active. Brian got a nice photo of a co-operative ALDER FLYCATCHER [Moucherolle
des aulnes] identified on its call, being one of the similar-appearing empidonax
flycatchers. Brian also got a nice photo of a female COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
WARBLER [Paruline masque], a BANDED LONGHORN FLOWER BEETLE, a BULLFROG
[Ouaouaron], and a COMMON WHITETAIL DRAGONFLY [La lydienne].
** Georges Brun noted a SONG SPARROW [Bruant chanteur] with a white tail
near the Hall's Creek walking trail on Tuesday. It appears to be in adult
plumage, so this may be a partial albino and tail will remain white.
** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a KILLDEER [Pluvier kildir] on Tuesday that
may be a young-of-the-year. The second neck band would seem like it's just
coming on. Aldo also got adult SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS [Pluvier semipalmé] at Hay
Island on Tuesday.
