**Louise Nichols had a productive visit to the Petit-Cap beach and
dunes site on Sunday. Louise comments fewer numbers of shorebirds but an
interesting variety to include 7 RED KNOTS, DUNLIN, an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER
and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER of which she was able to get
photos.
**Aldo Dorio got some crisp photos of a fall BAY-BREASTED WARBLER and a MAGNOLIA WARBLER at Hay
Island Nature Park and are attached.
**Marcel Caissie reports a pair of WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES
arrived to their Notre Dame yard last week and seem to be settling
in.
**There are two members of the GRASSHOPPER family active at
this time of year that suspect many have seen making their flying leaps showing
open wings of yellow and brown-black that look like butterflies at first. They
are very cryptic, blending in with their often gravel road or path background
until one gets near them and they make a brief flight. We have two common
species that do this scenario. The CRACKLING LOCUST which makes a crackling
sound during its brief flight and the CAROLINA GRASSHOPPER which is silent.
Photos of open winged individuals to show their different wing patterns as well
as their on the ground very cryptic setting position are attached.
