** Christmas Bird Counts are just around the corner and the Moncton
Christmas Bird Count will take place on Saturday, December 19th. The
co-ordinator is our Roger Leblanc who does a great job providing up to date maps
to the counting groups. Roger reports that most areas now have volunteers to
cover the area and more can be added to existing groups as more eyes see more
birds. Especially welcome are counters who will count birds at their feeder
yards that day. For any further information or to join in a group or count at
home contact Roger via e-mail at <parus@nb.sympatico.ca> Any message to Roger
can also be sent by responding to this daily e-mail which can be forwarded.
** Brian Stone encountered a 4 cm long CATERPILLAR motoring
across the living room floor recently. It turns out to be the LARGE YELLOW
UNDERWING MOTH CATERPILLAR, an introduced species to NB that overwinters in the
laval caterpillar stage.
**The PILEATED WOODPECKER [Grand pic] has continued to enjoy
the suet log at Carol Leblanc’s yard in Rosewood Trailer Park off the Salisbury
Road. Dave Leblanc documented a photo of it on Wednesday. It appears to be a
female.
**There are several RAPTOR photos taken by Anna Tucker and
Aldo Dorio over the past days being held back today for second opinions but
hopefully these photos will be shared tomorrow.
