**The Moncton Christmas Bird Count is in progress today with
tally-up at the Tankville School after 4:00 p.m. I suspect there’ll be some
interesting reports to follow, with so many eyes on the
area.
**Brian Stone had an insect land on the outside of a window on
Friday, seeming not to be terribly concerned about the cool temperatures. He got
a photo of it from the underside as it quietly perched on the outside
windowpane. It turns out to be one of the species of WINTER CRANE FLIES [Tipule]
of the genus Trichocera.
**The LONG-TAILED DUCKS [Harelde kakawi] have been joining us for
the winter from their northern nesting grounds, being seen offshore in open
water. Aldo Dorio captured a photo of a winter plumage female on
Friday.
