**Carmella Melanson paid a visit to the Jean-Guy Robichaud
property in Inkerman on Friday to spend some special moments with the MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRD [Merlebleu azuré]
that has been at this location for several days now. It cooperated for a great
photo. As Carmella was looking for the Mountain Bluebird, a NORTHERN SHRIKE
[Pie-grièche grise] perched in a nearby tree and cooperated for a photo as
well.
**Marlene Hickman comments on something she has not seen before: a
MOURNING DOVE [Tourterelle triste] arrived at her feeding yard with a ball of
wet snow frozen to its tailfeathers, dragging it along. It must have perched the
night before with some wet snow that stuck and froze into a
ball.
**Great to hear of EVENING GROSBEAKS [Gros-bec errant] arriving at
a feeder yard. Jean Renton had her first arrival of them Friday morning. This is
a species Jean has been fortunate enough to get most winters. Jean also put out
Christmas berry bouquets, much to the pleasure of local ROBINS [Merle
d'Amérique] who are enjoying them.
**John Inman spotted a SNOW GOOSE [Oie des neiges] travelling with
a flock of approximately fifty CANADA GEESE [Bernache du Canada] on Friday
morning from his Mary’s Point home.
**Dave Christie comments feeder activity was active on Friday but
most of the same troop that had been attending, except for a pair of PURPLE
FINCH [Roselin pourpré] that dropped by. Dave also saw a flock of 25 REDPOLLS
[Sizerin] briefly land in a BIRCH [Bouleau] tree near his home before they moved
on. This is the most Dave has seen this season. Dave also saw 3 White-winged
Crossbills fly over on Friday.
**Yolande LeBlanc’s NORTHERN PARULA [Paruline à collier] continued
to be actively feeding at its peanut butter cache in the snow on Friday. The
snow and cold days don't seem to have affected it as yet. Yolande also had a
NORTHERN GOSHAWK [Autour des palombes] come by her yard and after some of this
raptor’s favorite prey, Mourning Doves.
**Aldo Dorio got a documentary photo of two BUFFLEHEAD [Petit
Garrot] off the shore at Hay Island on Thursday.
he first snowfall of Thursday night made for some scenic photo ops
for Brian Stone in the sunshine of Friday. The fresh snow is great for fresh
tracks in the snow. The trail of a SNOWSHOE HARE [Lièvre d'Amérique] was noted as well as a DOWNY
WOODPECKER [Pic mineur] and BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE [Mésange à tête noire] paying
little attention to the snow.
