** The Nature Moncton December
meeting will take place tonight, Tuesday evening December 8 at 7 pm, at the
Mapleton Rotary Lodge across from Cabela’s. The short Annual General Meeting
will take place after the speaker of the evening and notices have been sent out
in advance as per the constitution. The speaker will be Roger LeBlanc who will
share some of his documentary work recently done in the north.
**
Another report of EVENING GROSBEAKS
[Gros-bec errant] to feeder yards: Marlene Hickman had a flock of 8
Evening Grosbeaks arrive to her Dorchester feeder yard on Monday morning. It’s
a nice sign of winter activity to have 3 feeder yards all a distance apart
reporting Evening Grosbeaks in the past few days. The Grosbeaks join a nice
selection of regular patrons at Marlene’s.
** It’s that time of year we tend to
see RED-TAILED HAWKS [Buse à queue rousse] perched in
roadside trees. Janet Cormier spotted one by the
Scoudouc overpass on Route 15 on Monday but it did like they often do, as soon
as she slowed down for a photo, it slid into another tree, but she did get one
quick photo.
** Brian Stone was out at 6:30 am on Monday
morning to photograph the conjunction of the Moon and Venus. Conjunction is
defined as an event that occurs when 2 or more celestial objects appear close
together in the sky. He was also able to photograph the MOON, MARS, JUPITER and
VENUS in one photo, one of which is labelled and one not for
comparison.
