** Jean-Paul LeBlanc comments BALD EAGLES [Pygargue à tote blanche] seem to be getting more
populous in Kent County. On January 8, they stopped at Upper St-Antoine where
they dispose of animal carcases and counted 10 just on one stop; on January 9
they counted 4 moving on the ice towards the Irving-Eco-Centre on the
Bouctouche Bay, and 1 more at the Dune. Stella counted 2 more on January 9
going to Caissie Cape to see the Snowy Owl.
Jean-Paul also
shares a photo of a close up of the eye area of their WHITE-WINGED DOVE [Tourterelle à miles blanches] patron to
show the extensive blue patch compared to the Mourning
Dove.
** Bob Blake comments on noting 2 different
flocks of approximately 30 SNOW BUNTINGS [Bruant des
neiges] in fields of the Dykstra Farm at the corner of Homestead Rd and
Route 112, and also a flock of equal size in a field in the Wheaten Settlement
area on Sunday.
** Elaine Gallant points out the still open water
in the Pointe-du-Chene wharf area had a few late in the season birds as of
Monday, an immature NORTHERN GANNET [Fou de Bassan] was
still near the wharf, 2 CANADA GEESE
[Bernaches du Canada] were under the bridge on route to the wharf and
a GREAT BLUE HERON [Grand Héron] was still present.
Oncoming predicted weather may have some changes in store with open water areas
shrinking.
** Dave Christie points out the Aldo Dorio photos
of yesterday have a large part of the lower neck featherless which is not normal
wondering if the cause may be from moulting or injury. Those photos are
re-attached for second looks today.
** Brian Stone points out the photo Georges Brun
submitted yesterday of sundogs shows an UPPER TANGENT ARC. That photo is
attached again today. You can read more about tangent arcs at the attached
