**Jean-Paul and Stella LeBlanc report the WHITE-WINGED DOVE
[Tourterelle à ailes blanches], the PINE WARBLER [Paruline des pins], and the female NORTHERN CARDINAL
[Cardinal rouge] all dropped by their popular Bouctouche feeder yard on
Friday.
**Bob Blake reports an active feeder yard at his Second North
River site, with expected regulars, with BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES [Mésange à tête
noire] in especially noticeable numbers, at 15. Bob has been feeding peanut
butter to
FLYING SQUIRRELS [Polatouche] for some time, and now has three to
four that come at nights regularly, and now are at the point that he can stroke
them like a cat, and they don’t even flick a tail now.
**Brian Stone came across a 1.4 cm SPIDER [Araignée] walking
across a snowy trail on Friday. It was -2° C, with the wind chill of -8° C.
Brian researched for identity as a SIX-SPOTTED FISHING SPIDER, Dolomedes triton, obviously a hardy
Spider.
**Roger LeBlanc spotted a GREAT BLUE HERON [Grand Héron] in some
still open water in Halls Creek off Crowley Farm Road on Thursday. We don’t
often see Great Blue Heron in the area at this time of year, however, remaining
open water areas will give feeding opportunities for
fish.
**January has arrived, which means the annual Nature Moncton
Members’ Night is scheduled this year for Tuesday night, January
19th at
Mapleton Rotary Lodge. Nature Moncton is a very diverse group with many
interests, and this is a time to share some of those interests in short 5 to 15
minute vignettes that can be on any subject in nature, to humorous skits, poems,
good books read, travel, and lots more. Leave your name and subject with President John
Foster by phone at 384-7212, or email at fosterjs@nb.sympatico.ca. Contact John as soon as possible so he can plan the itinerary
for that evening.
