** Several folk were able to see two PIPING PLOVERS [Pluvier siffleur] at Anchorage Beach on Grand Manan on September 09. Both were leg banded. One with AJ and the other with MA. Louise Nichols got photos and sent information to Cheri Gratto-Trevor who was able to confirm that AJ was banded on July 20, 2017 as a chick at Louis Head in southern Nova Scotia and MA was banded as a chick in the same location. Ma and AJ are siblings. MA has not been reported since banding but it is very interesting that Mark Morise found that AJ, that was seen in Grand Manan on September 09, was reported in Florida on September 14 five days later. A long flight in such a short time. Louise's photo is of AJ.

** Bristen Bourque got some very interesting photos of a DEFINITE TUSSOCK MOTH CATERPILLAR, and another of the very thin cocoon of this species. The female moth is wingless, but the male is not. The female actually will lay fertilized eggs on the surface of the thin cocoons which is a quite different behavior from most moths but has adapted to the female adult being wingless.

** Ray Gauvin took a video of a PAINTED LADY BUTTERFLY [Belle dame], BEES, and other insects very much enjoying his garden patch of SEDUM PLANTS. Take a look at the action at the attached link.  If the link does not open for you immediately just copy the link to your browser.

** Aldo Dorio got a nice profile photo of a DUNLIN [Bécasseau variable] at Hay Island on Wednesday. We should be seeing more of this shorebird species now, as it moves through at a later time than most other shorebirds.
