** Rosaire Richard was taking photos of shorebirds on August 24th at
Johnson's Mills and found one that was tagged, and was able to read the tag. It
was banded at Johnson's Mills on August 06, 2014. It would be interesting to
know how many kilometers this bird has traveled since August 06, 2014.
** On August 24 Marguerite Windsor collected eight BLACK SWALLOWTAIL
BUTTERFLY [Papillon du céleri]
caterpillars from her dill patch. They were already fairly large
when she gathered them. This would be from a second brood and these caterpillars
will transform into the chrysalis stage to overwinter very soon. Marguerite has
offered them to me to be overwintered, which is a very pleasant task. They will
go into a suitable container in a fridge to overwinter and be released next
spring. The same scenario happened last year and they emerged on schedule and
were released, but did not use the choice of dill and parsley I had in the yard
for them. The butterflies seem to know just where Marguerite's dill patch is and
she gets contented patrons there every year.
