**There have been 7 SANDHILL CRANES [Grue du Canada] all summer and continuing in a field just outside of Amherst. There is one CANADA GOOSE [Bernache du Canada] with them that seems to be imprinted with them, as it flies when they do and eats when they do. The attached photo was taken by Vicki Daly on Sunday, September 3rd. Also that day, while Vicki and Rhi Edwards were birding, they watched a MERLIN [Faucon émerillon] chasing a BELTED KINGFISHER [Martin-pêcheur d'Amérique] at the Tidnish Dock area.

**It sure is SANDHILL CRANE [Grue du Canada] report day. Ron Steeves reports that a friend phoned him on Friday that there were 4 Sandhill Cranes in a field in the Timber River area near Shemogue. It has to be very interesting that two reports come on the same day, with more than one or two Sandhill Cranes in the area.

**Grandson Matt and I got to Grand Manan at 5 p.m. on Friday for Saturday’s pelagic trip, and were fortunate to get to see the BURROWING OWL [Chevêche des terriers] right in the place it has been perched for some time during the day, at Castalia Marsh. I’m not positive, but suspect that the left eye appears to have a problem. The eyelid appears like it may be swollen. A second value-added bonus to the short evening was locating the NORTHERN WHEATEAR [Traquet motteux] on a rock wall in the Northhead direction from the Castalia ballfield.
