** John and Jane Foster have had a female NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal
rouge] in their Frampton Lane yard for the past three mornings. They comment
that it seems to like white millet. This may be the same Cardinal that Daryl
Doucet had in his yard in a street off Frampton near Gorge Road.
** With the abundance of overwintering berries we had this year it is great
to hear of the advance guard of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS [Jaseur boréal] arriving. Aldo
Dorio spotted four at Hay Island on Wednesday that seem to be checking out the
excellent crop of winterberry holly there.
** Brian Stone got photos of a GREAT LEOPARD MOTH caterpillar in the Perth,
Ontario area on Tuesday. This moth has not been identified in New Brunswick as
yet that I am aware of, but has expanded its range into southern Ontario and so
could appear in New Brunswick in the future. The adult is a striking white with
black rings that is not likely to be missed by moth watchers. The orange bands
of the larval caterpillar show clearly when it curls up after being disturbed.
Brian also got some photos of a very distant NORTHERN SHRIKE [Pie-grièche grise]
