** A note from our chief swallow box engineer, Fred Richards, that the
last nest box has been completed and is now ready for distribution at the Nature
Moncton TREE SWALLOW NEST BOX PROJECT workshop set for March 24. If, for some
reason, someone needs boxes before then Fred can bring some to a meeting night
before then. There again will be 50 more given out free of charge this season.
Fred’s efforts in this project are very much appreciated, as well as Roger
LeBlanc’s for procuring and delivering building material. A photo of Fred’s
workshop is attached. I believe there are still a few boxes available, If you’d
like one or would like to increase your present order, touch base with Louise
Nichols by e-mail at nicholsl@eastlink.ca
** We have not had a significant invasion of PINE GROSBEAKS [Durbec des
sapins] as yet, which still may happen. Jill Greening monitors the Nature
Moncton BlogSpot from Saskatchewan and sends some photos of Pine Grosbeaks in
her feeder yard, commenting they are in good numbers there at the moment and
enjoying her black oil sunflower seed offering.
** I’ve had e-mails from folks, who were not able to attend the TRACK,
TRAIL AND SCAT WORKSHOP on Saturday, due to road conditions and other reasons,
and are wondering if it can be repeated. It will be very easy to re-run the
indoor portion of the workshop on an evening during this week. I checked this
morning and the Sobey’s Community room at 55 Vaughn Harvey Blvd. is
available to us on Friday evening and is booked. It was also available on
Thursday but weather is calling for snow on Thursday. Therefore, the indoor
session of the workshop will be repeated this coming Friday night, February 9
starting at 6:30 pm and with breaks will probably go for a few hours. This is
impromptu and very informal so anyone interested, just show up with your
enthusiasm and bring a friend. It will probably not get posted on the website
but will make every effort over the week to let folks know it is
happening.
