Info Line # (384-NEWS) 506-384-6397
** A short information line
today. Cold rainy days do that.
** Cheryl Stewart has had CLIFF
SWALLOW [Hirondelle à front
blanc] nesting at her Quarryville home above window
ledges for
some years. The good news this year is that there is more than
there
was last year, which is a pleasant scenario to hear about this dwindling
species. They arrived May 10th, with some possibly a bit
earlier. There is a flurry of
activity getting the mud pellets
assembled to form their unique nests. I am
attaching a few photos
from other years to show how they look. There are
approximately 25-35 active nests.
** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a very content COMMON GRACKLE
[Quiscale bronzé] with a June Beetle as prey. The cool weather
seems to be
slowing down the usual explosion of June Beetles
mating flights.
