**Leon Gagnon experienced a rather bizzare visit from an immature DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT [Cormoran à
aigrettes] at his Wilson's Point cottage on Miscou Island. He found it rather
odd to notice a lone DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT [Cormoran à aigrettes]on his lawn
and went out to photograph it when it decided to try to enter the cottage
through a picture window. It showed no fear of Leon whatsoever and after a few
attempts flew off with no problem. No doubt the DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT
[Cormoran à aigrettes] had a reason for the bizzare activity but it wasn't
about to offer any explanation. Leon also comments he is noting a group of
RING-BILLED GULLS [Goéland à bec cerclé] on the
roadway, not sure what they were interested in.
**It is always pleasant to see the saprophytic plant Indian
Pipe during the summer with its white drooping heads. However, this time of the
year the drooping head becomes erect and takes on a pink colouration and
proceeds to seed formation. A photo is attached.
I also noted an adult Monarch
Butterfly flying in a southerly direction along the coastline at Cape Enrage on
Tuesday using the same dihedral flight pattern as a Turkey Vulture to
effortlessly glide long distances quickly.
** It's a good day to take a look at the
Nature Moncton Website at www.naturemoncton.com. Take a look under upcoming
events that webmaster Brian Stone has up and ready for the start of the Nature
Moncton season. The monthly presentations are written up as well as three field
trips in the upcoming months. The activities committee, with Louise Nichols as
chairperson, have met over the summer and a nice lineup is waiting for
participants to enjoy. More is planned for later but yet to be confirmed.
