** Pat Fox got a photo of the lone GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET [Roitelet à couronne dorée] that has been feeding on a peanut butter/suet blend in her Upper Coverdale yard for most of the winter. It is very uncommon for a Golden-crowned Kinglet to come to a feeder yard and in the 3 cases that I am aware of it was to peanut butter or a peanut butter suet blend.

** The NORTHERN HAWK OWL [Chouette épervière] in Minudie, N.S. continues to seemingly take interest in its admirers. Yvette Richard visited it in the bright sky of Wednesday to get a portrait quality photo, commenting that it was more than cooperative once she found it.

** Gordon Rattray reports that he had a pair of PURPLE FINCH [Roselin pourpré] come to his feeder yard in Weldon on Wednesday, as well as his first SONG SPARROW [Bruant chanteur] to get portrait photos. His AMERICAN GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune] number jumped to approximately 50 along with his other regulars. At Gray Brook Pond Gordon noted 6 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS [Canard noir], 3 MALLARD DUCKs [Canard colvert]; I pair of CANADA GEESE [Bernaches du Canada] and a lone, male HOODED MERGANSER [Harle couronné] on the far shore.

** Jane Leblanc was pleased to see her St. Martins yard bird activity swelling on Wednesday morning to include SONG SPARROW [Bruant chanteur], DARK-EYED JUNCOS [Junco ardoisé], AMERICAN ROBINS [Merle d'Amérique], DOWNY WOODPECKER [Pic mineur], BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE [Mésange à tête noire] and lots of PURPLE FINCH [Roselin pourpré]. Her RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH [Sittelle à poitrine rousse] patronage has gone to a ‘flock’ of 2. A SONG SPARROW [Bruant chanteur] was working on a suet block, possibly the seeds were the interest, but the powerful fuel of real suet could be of interest for arrival energy.

** Curt Nason pointed out in Friday’s “Sky at a Glance” to check early Wednesday morning to see the Moon and 2 planets in conjunction. Brian Stone peeked out his window for a check and there they were in the clear sky, including some of Jupiter’s moons. Brian took several photos of the action and as a bonus shares some suggestions on proper dress for early morning sky watching!
