**Jane LeBlanc sends a photo of an AMERICAN
GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune] enjoying the seeds of that popular cultivar
PURPLE CONEFLOWER [Échinacée pourpre]. From all the photos sent in this summer
of butterflies, birds, insects, etc. attracted to Purple Coneflowers, this
plant is definitely one that will be planted in my own yard at home and at our
camp. I tried to get seed to plant some now, but was advised it was too late,
and should have been done in August/early September. However, if plants are
started from seed inside in January/February, they should bloom and do their
thing to attract desirable critters to the yard next summer and fall.
**It is great to share the announcements below
about some opportunities to get out in the field, with COVID-19 restrictions
adhered to. This message is from Activities Committee chairperson Louise
Nichols.
Activities Committee Chair,
Louise Nichols, passes on information about two birding outings that will be
guided by Alain Clavette next week, sponsored by the village of
Memramcook. The dates of the outings are Thursday Nov. 5th and Saturday
Nov. 7th. Participants are asked to gather at 8:30 AM behind the
Municipal Building in Memramcook (at 540 Rue Centrale). In light of
Covid-19, participants will follow each other in their cars caravan style to
different sites. A limit of 15 people has been set for each walk and
interested people must register at village@memramcook.com or call
758-4078. The outings are expected to go to approximately 1:00
PM.
