** EVENING GROSBEAK [Gros-bec
errant] are continuing to
appear in significant number at various sites of New Brunswick. David Lilly spotted a flock of approximately
a dozen in Oromocto on Sunday in the old train track area of Hazen Park and got
some photos of those bright males.
**Daryl Doucet had a NORTHERN SHRIKE
[Pie-grièche grise] arrive in
his yard in Moncton on Monday. Daryl’s
photos suggest the bird may be an immature bird due to some brown tones with
breast and chest barring.
** PINE GROSBEAK [Durbec des sapins] are showing up in pleasant numbers.
Aldo Dorio spotted 10 Pine Grosbeaks in Neguac on Monday enjoying Flowering Crab Apple fruit. This species will chew up the fruit taking the seeds and dropping the pulp which certainly can be interesting to species like BOHEMIAN WAXWING [Jaseur boréal] and AMERICAN ROBIN [Merle d'Amérique]. The birds in Aldo’s photos all appear to be in female plumage which could include young-of-the-year males.
