** Louise Nichols checked out Eddy
Marsh near Amherst on Wednesday to find a pleasing variety of birds. There was
good activity of NORTHERN HARRIERS [Busard des marais] and many songbirds in
the trees to include CANADA JAYS [Mésangeai du Canada], WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS
[Bruant à gorge blanche] and COMMON REDPOLLS [Sizerin flammé] which was the
first she had seen this season. Louise also saw 5 shorebird species land near
her to include 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS [Grand Chevalier], 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS
[Bécasseau à croupion blanc] and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS [Bécasseau à poitrine
cendrée]. What an unfortunate moment for the camera battery to die to miss
these gems. Before that Louise was able to get some GREEN-WINGED TEALS
[Sarcelle d'hiver] in an impoundment and notice the differing plumage of 2 of
the males, assuming that the difference is due to a different stage of molt
back to breeding plumage. Comparison photos are attached.
** Jane Leblanc photographed 6 GREEN-WINGED
TEALS [Sarcelle d'hiver] near the St. Martins beach on Wednesday morning. She
also saw a flock of 50 SNOW BUNTINGS [Bruant des neiges] and 50 CANADA GEESE
[Bernaches du Canada] in the same area.
