**Georges
Brun got photos from the walking bridge over Halls Creek Wednesday afternoon at
4:30 PM of 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS flying and hunting near the compound of Trans
Aqua or (GMSC). Light conditions were not great for photography Wednesday
and it was nearing dusk, but documentary photos are convincing. What a
great sighting with Christmas Bird Count days away!
Georges also saw the same flock of COMMON REDPOLLS
along the edge of Petitcodiac River between Emery St and Hawkes St in
Riverview. (levee road)
** Pat and Jill McLaughlin report that
they have 3 NORTHERN CARDINALS [Cardinal rouge] at their Bathurst feeder yard,
1 male and 2 females.
Pat also comments that he thought by
now someone around Sussex would have a picture, maybe from a game camera or at
least another sighting, of the Cougar that they saw in October there. Pat
comments that it is curious how an animal that size can be that secretive. He
guesses that it is why he always takes people’s claims of seeing a Cougar with
a grain of salt. Pat is a very experienced outdoor person, hunter and
naturalist.
** Jane Leblanc shares some photos of some
of the patrons coming to her St. Martins feeder yard. Jane did have a pair of NORTHERN
CARDINALS [Cardinal rouge] until they had to be away for a few days, however
for the past 6 days since returning she has only seen the male. On Wednesday, a
flock of approximately 20 EVENING GROSBEAKS [Gros-bec errant] dropped in as
well as a male DOWNY WOODPECKER [Pic mineur] that posed nicely for a photo.
