**Lisa
Morris comments on a tree overlooking Jones Lake where she has noted Bald Eagles
perching in wait for foraging opportunities from the large gull flocks that can
accumulate there, noting this scenario for several years. The tree is on Westmount
Blvd. by the large corner near Newton St, close to Main St. An adult Bald
Eagle was looking over Sunday brunch options on Jones Lake at 8 am while 2
crows cozied up to watch from the other side.
**More and
more people are getting to enjoy the pleasant number of Evening Grosbeaks
that tend to be joining us at feeders this winter.
Clarence
Cormier had a flock of 30+ Evening Grosbeaks that dropped by his Grande-Digue feeder
yard at 11:30 AM on Monday and returned for a second helping at 12:30 PM.
** With the ‘tropical’ fall we have had some might have thought that winter would never come. But Mother Nature has other plans and with December being at our door it will also mean that we will soon be coming into the Christmas Bird Count period. As is traditionally the case the Moncton Christmas Bird Count will be held on the first Saturday after the start of the CBC period so Saturday, December the 17th. All field parties are ready to go but if someone really wanted to participate or just get more info on what a CBC is you can get in touch with our CBC compiler Roger Leblanc at parus@nb.sympatico.ca. Where you could really help is with the feeder part of the CBC which consists in a nutshell, of counting the birds coming to your feeder on December 17 and reporting them to Susan Atkinson, our feeder report compiler. If you think you can help us with that just get in touch with Susan at susandatkinson@hotmail.com and she will explain the details and send you the needed documents. Winter is coming but that does not mean the end of fun birding experiences and participating in a Christmas Bird Count can certainly be one of them
