**Nancy LeBlanc was able
to capture some of the waterfowl observed on Saturday’s Nature Moncton wharf
tour. She was able to photograph an adult Barrow’s Goldeneye nicely showing the
white facial half-moon, blunted forehead, and ‘piano key’ stripe to the water.
Nancy was also able to photograph a female Common Goldeneye showing the
half-orange bill of breeding plumage. A clear photo of a female Red-breasted
Merganser provided a cooperative observation.
** The male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker continues to be a patron for
Jamie and Karen Burris. It enjoyed the seed bell again but also foraged on the
ground and on their birch and plum trees. Jamie wishes he would stay away from
the plum tree so as not to damage it too much. Jamie got a nice photo of him in
flight showing his primaries, secondaries, and coverts.
The Burris’ also had a flock of 7 Evening
Grosbeaks on Sunday.
** Georges Brun spotted a Red Fox
Saturday afternoon
along the edge of the Petitcodiac River across from Chateau Moncton. One of George’s
photos caught that unique leap of the Red Fox to the sound of moving prey.
Georges also photographed 6 Canada Geese downriver towards
the Bend.
**As mentioned in yesterday’s edition,
Lynne Renton has a White-tailed Deer doe that had a late birth of 2
fawns in November. This is a late date for a White-tailed Deer to give birth.
She has had 2 fawns with her, but recently Lynn is seeing only the one fawn with
its mother that is often seen in the field from her Wheaton Settlement area
home. I am adding a second photo Lynn got on Saturday to show just how small the fawn
still is, yet spotting has disappeared.
**Bad news
followed by good news!
Last week,
one of our most faithful and long-term Nature Moncton members suffered a
significant stroke. Dale Gaskin was taken immediately to the Moncton
City Hospital and received very prompt treatment. The good news is Dale is out
of ICU and into a rehab area and is doing extremely well and is able to see
visitors with the possibility of going home soon.
At the
moment, Dale is in room 4615A at the Moncton City Hospital.
We are all
very pleased at the outcome of a potentially serious scenario, and our thoughts
are very much with Dale.
