**Jamie Burris reports their resident Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker was present first thing Saturday morning, feeding on suet. It was
almost 50° C below with the wind chill. Their troupe of Dark-eyed Juncos
now stands at 18. They also had 1 male and 2 female House Finch taking
turns with the Dark-eyed Juncos on the seed bell.
**It was a
cold day for John Inman’s Baltimore Oriole patron on Saturday. It sat
for a while with its head tucked in and a cold foot. Shannon Inman was able to
get within 20 inches of it to feed it, but John will have to see if it made the
night.
John also
photographed what appears to be a very high-flying adult Northern Goshawk going
over.
**Nelson
Poirier’s heated bird water supply dish was frozen solid on Saturday in
the cold conditions, much to the frustration of bird patrons. Nelson put several
hand warmers on the frozen surface to hopefully give a bit of open water, but
the exercise was totally futile. Open water is available today without the
extreme wind chill, and the bird troupe is lined up for refreshment!
