**Louise Nichols took a brief drive
along High Marsh Rd on Monday afternoon. She saw a bald eagle on a
post and could see something hanging down beneath the eagle. The eagle
took off when she slowed her car and flew toward the road. It was carrying
fairly large prey, and Louise scrambled to get out of the car with her camera,
managing a distant documentary photo of the eagle carrying what looked possibly
like a muskrat. It flew far off in the field on the other side and then
down to the ground with its Thanksgiving dinner.
Louise also reports that a group of hooded mergansers has been occupying their yard pond on and off for a couple of
weeks. Most days, there have been around 8 to 10, but one morning, she
counted 19. They have not been present for 2 days now, so they may have
moved on.
**With the cool weather coming on,
more folks may be thinking of getting the birdfeeder yard ready for the season
ahead. As a reminder, a supply of Nature Moncton bird feeders is available and
ready for patrons. They can be picked up at any Nature Moncton event or
anytime beside the doorsteps at 85 Mount Royal Blvd. in Moncton.
The cost is $35 and can be paid by e-transfer
to naturemonctontreasurer2020@gmail.com
or by leaving cash in the mailbox, which will be transferred upon pickup. Photos
of the units are attached.
