**Many thanks to Lucas Greville, who
came to share his extensive knowledge of bats with an eager group at the Nature
Moncton meeting on Tuesday night. Lucas kept the audience keenly
attentive with facts about bats that many didn't know, including the large
number of bat species in the world and some of their nocturnal habits. He
also spoke about bat species in the province of New Brunswick, the
environmental risks faced by bats, and some suggestions as to what we can do to
help. Many questions followed his presentation, and much was learned by
all. An enjoyable and enlightening evening.
**John Inman photographed the very
aptly named and beautiful green lacewing insect, nicely showing the
striking wing venation.
We have several species of caddisflies
in New Brunswick, and the species seem to go on their mating mission at different times of the season, some very late. John got a photograph of one,
which is in its very typical delta wing perched position. John also
photographed a crane fly stuck in a spider web.
He is also resending the photo of the
red-tailed hawk Shannon Inman took recently that the gremlins grabbed
from the photo line-up for the first part of that day of publication.
**I am adding the Ken English photos
of the Starlink Satellite Chain again today, as I neglected to mention
that it is essential to click on the photos to enlarge them to see the image.
Possibly, most people do this anyway.
**Nature Moncton will be having a
field trip to the Wright property this coming Sunday, October 26. All details
are below:
Wright
Property Field Trip
Date and time: Sunday, October
26, at 10 AM
Location: 1030 Rte. 114 Hwy,
Lower Coverdale, NB
Leader: Fred Richards
Mark your calendars for October 26th for a Nature Moncton outing to the property of Peter and Janet Wright. This property is 10 minutes from downtown Moncton and consists of a large area of mixed forest, blueberry fields, bogs, and more. Peter is trying to assist in the restoration of the Acadian Forest that would be natural to this area. The owner will guide our walk and will cover some of the recent history.
We will be walking on trails that
are new and a little rough in places, but they are fairly easy to walk on. We
walked a little less than 2 kilometers and saw only a small portion of the
place. A beautiful place for a fall walk. All are welcome.
The Address is 1030 Rte. 114 Hwy,
Lower Coverdale, NB. And the start time is 10:00 AM. Cross the
Gunningsville bridge toward Riverview and, at the lights, turn left toward
Hillsborough and continue 4.3 KM. The address is on the right side, and the
driveway is a little hard to spot at highway speed, so suggest you slow down.
