**Unfortunately, the weather conditions the past few days have made for no nature reports, so today’s report will consist of two Nature Moncton activities this coming week.

The first one is the January Nature Moncton meeting, taking place this coming Tuesday evening, which will be virtual and can be enjoyed and participated in from the comfort of home. All details are below:

Nature Moncton January meeting

Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 7:00 PM

The Canadian Beaver

Guest speaker: Andrew Hebda

Biologist Andrew Hebda, retired curator of zoology at the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History, will present this talk on the Canadian Beaver (Castor canadensis), which is in its 51st year (March 24, 1975) as Canada’s national animal. The Beaver has been very influential in Canada’s national development, especially in the early fur trade of the 1600s. Andrew will cover all three species of the Canadian Beaver, including their prehistory, history, natural history, and lots more. He will examine our intimate and natural relationship with this member of the Rodentia, and where the European Beaver fits in. As in any presentation Andrew Hebda gives, this promises to be a fascinating look at our national animal.

This presentation will be 100% virtual, allowing participants to enjoy excellent audio and visuals and be able to participate freely.

Interested participants are welcome to join in using the link below:

**The second event will be taking place next Saturday, January 24 with an indoor-outdoor component. Trail camera enthusiasts Brian Donovan and Brian Coyle will demonstrate trail camera use where we can watch wildlife undisturbed, whether it be in the woods or in our backyards.

All details are below, but bear in mind there is a maximum number of registrations with spaces left, so register promptly if you are going to participate.

**NATURE MONCTON WORKSHOP

How to Get the Best Use out of your Trail Camera

Date:                     Saturday, January 24th, at 10:00 AM

Place:                    Tankville School, 1979 Elmwood Dr., Moncton

Presenters:           Brian Donovan and Brian Coyle

You might have a trail camera that is taking up space in a closet or some such place. Or maybe you would like to purchase one but are uncertain about what to buy or how to set it up (Trail cameras are often under $100). Perhaps you have a trail cam out, but you just have not been happy with the results. Well, worry no more!  Nature Moncton will be holding a workshop with two trail cam gurus: Brian Donovan and Brian Coyle.  They will show you how to get set up (both the camera and the placement of the camera) so that you can get the shots and videos you are looking for.  The workshop will start at 10 AM in the basement of the Tankville Schoolhouse. We will stop for lunch (be sure to bring a lunch) and then go outside to set up a camera (bring weather appropriate clothing).

Trail cams can let you in on parts of the natural world that you would not normally see.  Enrich your experience of nature by attending this workshop and learning how to use one!

Please register at  outandabout4nm@gmail.com as registration is limited to 20 participants.

All are welcome, Nature Moncton member or not.
