**A
heads up to slot off this coming Thursday night for Nature Moncton movie night.
All details at the end of this message and upfront on Thursday morning.
**Tony
Thomas in Fredericton continues his bird photo of the day at his feeders. They
have a resident pair, male and female, of NORTHERN CARDINAL; Tony managed to
get a photo of the female on Monday, all fluffed up to keep warm.
**Brian
Stone joined Cathy Simon for an outing at the Tankville School trails on Sunday,
and they were happy to find that the wind had stopped, and the cold temperature
was bearable as a result. Some birds were sighted, along with lichens and frost, and a scenically clouded sky was photographed. They came across a pair
of pileated woodpeckers working over a poor, defenseless tree, and some photos were taken of the male pileated searching other trees for potential
snacks. One of six female pine grosbeaks was photographed as it picked
berries to squish for their seeds.
This
is the first common redpoll Nelson has seen at the feeders for several years,
and the first time pine grosbeaks and evening grosbeaks became feeder
patrons since he moved to an urban location.
