Nature Moncton Nature News: February 13 2015

** Eric Wilson alerted me to a very contented group of 100 to 120 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS [Jaseur boreal] foraging on flowering crab trees planted by the City on the median between St. George St. and Main St. (nearer St. George) Brian Stone and I went over to check it out. It was an amazing show going on with two lanes of traffic travelling on either side of them. As Eric suggested, the best place to park to see all the action was a parking lot up from Capitol St. and Eden St., beside the Dramis location. I expect they will return to that location as there's lots of forage remaining for them.

** Brian and I also checked out the Tantramar Marsh on Thursday. The High Marsh Rd. was not ploughed. HORNED LARKS [Alouette hausse-col],

LAPLAND LONGSPURS [Bruant lapon] and SNOW BUNTINGS [Bruant des neiges] continue to be present near the Prescott Farm and neighbouring farm, and Brian got some striking photos of PINE GROSBEAKS [Durbec des sapins] foraging in a fruit tree in Sackville.

** Susan Richard's attention was drawn to a group of dive-bombing AMERICAN CROWS [Corneille d'Amérique]. Their attention was captured by an adult BALD EAGLE [Pygargue à tête blanche] by the Memramcook River near their Taylor Village home.

** On February 11th, I mentioned a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE [Garrot d'Islande] x COMMON GOLDENEYE [Garrot à oeil d'or] hybrid male accompanying a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE [Garrot d'Islande] female photographed by Kathleen Spicer on a river on the Tantramar Marsh. Those photos were accidentally not included in the mail out and Blogger site that day. They are now on the February 11th Blogger site as well as added to today's mail out.
