It may be a bit hard to believe with conditions around us at the moment,
but official spring arrives today.
** Brian Stone spotted a SUN PILLAR developing as the sun was setting on
Thursday evening to get a sequence of four photos as it developed and
disappeared in the 7:00 PM time window.
** Norm Mullock on the south side of Jones Lake has had several dozen
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS [Jaseur boreal] coming to a large flowering crabtree fruit
everyday for the past 3 to 4 weeks. There are often two PINE GROSBEAKS [Durbec
des sapins] appearing to travel with them. There was also an AMERICAN ROBIN
[Merle d'Amérique] for a few weeks that has gone elsewhere.
** Reg LeBlanc is another who is having approximately 100 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
[Jaseur boreal] stripping a flowering crabtree in Moncton's north end in
Kingswood Park and who is getting a few PINE GROSBEAKS [Durbec des sapins] again
seeming to travel with them. From the photos that Reg shares, it looks like the
larder is well-stocked. With all the flocks being reported, there must be a
very significant number of Bohemian Waxwings around the city at the
moment.
** Kevin Renton reports they had a striking winter-pelage SHORT-TAILED
WEASEL [Belette à courte queue] drop by their Stilesville birdfeeder yard on
Thursday late in the day, no doubt more interested in the bird possibilities
than the seed buffet.
