**The Nature Moncton Feeder Tour is in progress today. Expect
lots of photos tomorrow.
**Jamie Burris at 21 Henderson Avenue in Riverview had a very
special yard visitor on January 19th, when
a first-winter GLAUCOUS GULL [Goéland bourgmestre] visited his feeder yard.
Jamie got great photos of it beside a first-winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL
[Goéland marin], as well as flight shots. Both first- and second-winter Glaucous
Gulls have the black bill end; however, the very dark eye indicates it to be a
first-winter bird, as the second-winter would look very similar but the eye
would be lighter in colour, going to yellow. Jamie also comments he has a
NORTHERN FLICKER [Pic flamboyant] coming to his yard which is very aggressive to
STARLINGS [Étourneau] to the point he has seen it attack a Starling and take it
down to the ground and show its intent with those sharp claws and long beak. I
suspect many of us would like to rent that Flicker for Starling
control!!
