** Bob Childs had some interesting new visitors to his Riverview feeder
yard on Wednesday. Their first RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD [Carouge à épaulettes] came
by, as well as some COMMON REDPOLLS [Sizerin flammé]. The ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER
[Paruline verdâtre] continues to be a regular, daily patron.
** A very interesting yard patron has been visiting the yard of Fernand
Maltais, at Oak Point, located near Miramichi. A BOBCAT [Lynx roux] stayed
around his place for nearly a month. It was helping itself to SMELT [ Poissons
eperlan ] that were left in sleds of some fishermen that used his yard to get
to Miramichi Bay. Fernand shares a few nice photos.
** Ed Mantell, who lives in Waterside, commented to David Christie that he
saw a very large flock of ducks circling the bay in front of his home earlier in
the week. David suspects this would be a flock of COMMON EIDER [Eider à duvet]
as they tend to be the earliest duck migrants there. They tend to fly around the
area a bit before they take off up the Shepody River towards the Petitcodiac and
Memramcook rivers on their migratory route.
** David Christie comments that PINE SISKINS [Tarin des pins] have moved into his Mary's Point feeder yard, equally in number to the AMERICAN GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune], and are very chattery.

** Judy Marsh is getting that spring feeling to find her EASTERN CHIPMUNK
[Suisse], Chippy, making his first appearance at her Shediac Rd. yard on
Wednesday. Plus, five RING-NECKED PHEASANTS [Faisan de Colchide] strolled into
her yard for snacks. As we have mentioned before, the Ring-necked Pheasants are
having an excellent winter this season to bolster their numbers.
