** Dale Gaskin reports he had a BALD EAGLE [Pygargue à tête blanche] come by his Dawson Settlement Rd. yard on Tuesday to enjoy a RACOON [Raton laveur] brunch, while a neighbor had a TURKEY VULTURE [Urubu à tête rouge] come by his yard on Monday. Dale comments he has noted two of his attending male AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES [Chardonneret jaune] are now in full, bright yellow breeding plumage, and is noting that the four RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES [Sittelle à poitrine rousse] that normally get along well are becoming very testy with one another around the suet feeder.
** Connie Colpitts suggests an additional item to note on the photo of the GREAT HORNED OWL [Grand-duc d'Amérique] feathered feet shared yesterday. Connie comments to take note of the hair-like filaments on the wings that act as mufflers to allow the owl to fly with nearly silent flight. The photo has been reattached.
** Vicki Daly comments that she had a real lineup of black birds in her yard on Wednesday with COMMON GRACKLES [Quiscale bronzé], RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS [Carouge à épaulettes], BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS [Vacher à tête brune], EUROPEAN STARLINGS [Étourneau sansonnet], and AMERICAN CROWS [Corneille d'Amérique] all lined up.
** The completed write up of the upcoming Nature Moncton workshop on Mason Bee house construction is added below, and will be rerun as the event draws closer next week.

Give a home to a Mason BeeA species worth discovering

Nature NB invites you to participate in our mason bee workshop.   During the workshop you'll be introduce to the Hymenoptera group.  A brief presentation will be held by our biologist Lewnanny Richardson that has been with us for more than 20 years.  You’ll get the chance to construct your own bee house and put it where ever you want, near your flowers, greenhouse, garden or other place in your backyard. And as you do this very easy woodworking Lewnanny will give you all kinds of information on our native Mason Bee and its important role as a pollinator. For instance you’ll discover that not all the bees sting.

Look forward to meeting you.

Place: Tankville School, 1665 Elmwood Dr.
Time: Saturday April 16th from 1 to 3 pm
