** Moncton's most admired BALD EAGLE [Pygargue à tête blanche] family just may have some adventures on their mind. Anna Tucker visited them on Friday evening to find the two eaglets jumping up and down, lifting briefly into the air, and just doing a lot of excited squawking. Anna said an adult could be seen circling overhead at times. Many people have visited this eagle family to be awed by the activity as the family ignored their admirers. It is appearing that they may soon have inaugural flight plans on the agenda.
Gordon Rattray visited a brook on the Albert Mines Rd. to see a pair of BELTED KINGFISHERS [Martin-pêcheur d'Amérique] doing a lot of aerial interaction. He noted many COMMON WHITETAIL DRAGONFLIES in flight, and a GRAY CATBIRD [Moqueur chat] settled for a photo.
** After Brian Stone's visit and comments on the small bog/wet area in the Twin Oaks/Ryan Rd. area of the city I had to get him to take me there on Friday.  As Brian had said there were hundreds of NORTHERN WHITE-FRINGED ORCHIDS putting on an awesome blooming display. There were also fifty plus ROSE POGONIA ORCHIDS in bloom, and at least the same number of CALOPOGON ORCHIDS. All were appropriately photographed. Ironically we parked in an area of large machines and piles of earth and water lines to walk five minutes to the site laden with orchids. I would suspect this spectacular mid-city area will soon be gone unless it is saved as a green space of which several are in the vicinity but boardwalks would be necessary if this is spared.
A sharply dressed WHITE-FACED MEADOWHAWK DRAGONFLY briefly posed. Lots of other plants of this habitat were present, such as the photographed WATER PLANTAIN which has a three parted bloom. Most flowering plants are four, five, six, or more parted.
** As Friday was our 49th wedding anniversary Pat and I marked the occasion with haute German cuisine in Aulac followed by the Tantramar Marsh SHORT-EARED OWL [Hibou des marais] evening show. The owls sure did not disappoint.
