** It’s that time of year when one can see larger female spiders carrying egg sacks with them under their abdomen.  In some species the young are born in the sack and come out to cling on the mother’s back or stay together as a group of spiderlings.  Louise Richard got a photo of a female spider carrying an egg sack a few weeks ago.  The spider in Louise’s photo is suspected to be a WOLF SPIDER species, however getting identifications of spiders seems to be a challenge.  Any comments would be appreciated.

** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a GREAT BLUE HERON [Grand Héron] enjoying a large FLOUNDER [Sole] catch on Wednesday.  Aldo also photographed RUDDY TURNSTONE [Tournepierre à collier] at Hay Island and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS [Pluvier argenté] continued to be present there.

** I don’t tend to see many Sphinx Moth showing up in August, but a LAUREL SPHINX paid a visit on August 1.  It may have been from a second brood.
