** Jamie and Karen Burris had a great morning down on the Hillsborough
shore on Sunday. They came across 5 RUFFED GROUSE [Gélinotte huppée] nestled in
a spruce tree. A juvenile SPOTTED SANDPIPER [Chevalier grivelé] gave some nice
photo opportunities, but the main event happened as they were about to leave
when they heard a screeching sound above them that turned out to be four
PEREGRINE FALCONS [Faucon pèlerin] flying large circular patterns, at an
estimated 1000 feet up.
** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a COMMON WOOD-NYMPH [Satyre des prés]
butterfly on Sunday, one that we have have had few submissions of so far. He
also got a YELLOW WARBLER [Paruline jaune] looking like it may be in
post-nesting disarray, as well as a juvenile SPOTTED SANDPIPER [Chevalier
grivelé]. It seems like such a short window during which we see the unspotted
juveniles, although the adults do have the unspotted breast in winter plumage.
Aldo also got a photo of a juvenile SORA [Marouette de Caroline] rail, out
swimming on Saturday.
