Nature Moncton Nature News: Sept 1 2016

**Georges Brun got some interesting photos of some interaction between a MERLIN and a BELTED KINGFISHER recently. The kingfisher is being quite bold around the Merlin.

Georges comments there has been notably active SHOREBIRD presence in the Chartersville Marsh pond, which one can access readily from Louis St. in Dieppe to the marsh trail there. There have been no recent reports from there to suggest maybe we should be checking it more. It is close and easy to access.

Georges also has seen shorebirds in the Riverview eastern pond, that is to say east of the roadway from the TransAqua facility to across from Bore Park that including SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and YELLOWLEGS.

**Gordon Rattray got a photo of a maturing INDIAN PIPE grouping. When this saprophyte plant matures its head become erect instead of drooped over.

Gordon also submits a photo which we suspect is a SANDERLING from the Saturday field trip to Petit Cap and also some photos of LEAST SANDPIPERS he got around the Lars Larson Marsh on Wednesday.

**Am attaching photos of Marguerite Winsor's BLACK SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY caterpillar from Wednesday as well as one that went into its chrysalis stage a few days ago. They are housed in a netted enclosure with a parsley plant. If anyone else has some BLACK SWALLOWTAIL caterpillars there is lots more room for friends in my yard.
