** Stella LeBlanc got a nice photo of a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD [Carouge à
épaulettes], immature male, showing an interesting plumage stage that may make
many of us take second looks. It’s a great photo.
** Louise Richard comments on BEECH [Hêtre américain] tree leaves still
very much in situ, as they will be for most of the winter. Beech and RED OAK
[Chêne rouge] are two deciduous trees that will hold their leaves well into the
winter. Louise also mentions the TAMARACK trees (American Larch) [Mélèze
d'Amérique] being in their striking late fall orange-yellow at the moment.
Tamaracks are our only coniferous trees that put on a fall colour show and drop
their needles. Photos of both trees are attached.
Louise also got photos of a mushroom group they found around their
Acadieville cabin in late September and suspect to be the GIANT CLITOCYBE
[Clitocybe géant].
** The BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS [Jaseur boréal] seem to be swelling in numbers
very fast. Clarence Cormier reported 500+ at Grande-Digue on Saturday and Aldo
Dorio reports a similar number at Hay Island on Sunday. Aldo also noted a slight
increase in PINE GROSBEAKS [Durbec des sapins], to four.
