**  Yolande LeBlanc experienced a surprise situation in her Memramcook yard. She noted a MERLIN [Faucon émerillon]  perched in a snag tree, with the feeder birds not paying much attention until the Merlin decided to make its move after one of the small birds. However, the tide turned very suddenly when a large raptor shot in after the Merlin. The whole event was very fast, but from her brief observation, Yolande thought the larger raptor to be a NORTHERN GOSHAWK [Autour des palombes]. It pursued the Merlin out over the marsh but the faster Merlin was successful in out flying the larger bird. It was the first time that Yolande has seen a raptor after another raptor as prey.

**  Clarence Cormier got a photo of an immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK [Autour des palombes] in his Grande-Digue yard just after it captured a SNOWSHOE HARE [Lièvre d’Amérique]. Note the sharp white supercilium over the eye, with its head just at the right angle to the camera to show it.

**  Brian Stone got his birthday treat first thing on Saturday morning with a striking 22° solar halo. Brian points out that 22° refers to the size and placement of the halo. Halos come in many degree sizes, but 22 is the most common.

Brian’s WHITE-TAILED DEER [Cerf de Virginie], nocturnal connoisseurs of bird food, suddenly became more comfortable about daytime raids on Saturday afternoon, when three were quite nonchalant about sharing the bounty with birds.

**  Aldo Dorio shares two photos of a LONG-TAILED DUCK [Harelde kakawi] off Néguac wharf, showing a very large black patch to the rear of the eye, suggesting a winter adult male bird. It shows the characteristic pink bill band nicely. Aldo also got a frontal photo of a SONG SPARROW [Bruant chanteur] that may be considering overwintering.
