** Lois Budd dropped by a friend’s home in Killams Mills on Friday and
found several male PINE GROSBEAKS [Durbec des sapins] coming to black oil
sunflower seeds. It was a surprise to see this number of males, because last
winter there were few adult males among the Pine Grosbeak flocks. Lois did not
see any females or immature males with them, but will be checking again.
** Dave Miller visited the Tantramar Marsh on Saturday and got some photos
of the RED-TAILED HAWKS [Buse à queue rousse] and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS [Buse
pattue] at that site this year. The feathered legs show nicely on the
Rough-legged Hawk photo.
** Brian Stone and Danny Sullivan visited Mapleton Park on Saturday
morning and found a very sharply dressed male WOOD DUCK [Canard branchu] among
the large group of MALLARDS [Canard colvert] there. They saw it first in Halls
Creek at the culvert under the Gorge Road but later it moved to the creek by the
bridge on the right side trail as you go in the Gorge Road. A female was
found there on Christmas Bird Count day but there was no sign of it on
Saturday.
