Dave Christie reports 11 folks were able to get down to the Morcom’s at civic
#575 Route 915 near Riverside Albert to get an audience with a female BLUE GROSBEAK [Guiraca
bleu]. Most had to wait for a time, but all were
successful in seeing it as it came and went to feed. Some new arrivals not seen
previously at the Morcom’s yard on Monday were a PALM WARBLER
[Paruline à couronne rousse], a few YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS [Paruline à croup ion
jaune] and 3 TREE SWALLOWS [Hirondelle
bicolore]. Dejah Morcom will be home today, Tuesday, for folks still
wanting a potential audience with the female Blue Grosbeak. For some reason
Dave Christie’s excellent photo of the female Blue Grosbeak and female Brown
Headed Cowbird did not attach to the photo lineup yesterday. It is re-attached
today, and hopefully stays there.
** It’s great to hear the recent reports of EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS [Merlebleu de l’Est] appearing. Jamie and Karen Burris spotted a pair
on the Nixon Rd; they also saw TREE SWALLOWS [Hirondelle
bicolore] and a pair of BELTED KINGFISHERS [Martin-pêcheur
d’Amérique].
** Mitch Doucet shares photos of the BLACK-HEADED GULL [Mouette rieuse] he got near Cape Tormentine
near Exit #51. Mitch also got a photo of one of the RUDDY DUCKS [Érismature rousse] that
are starting to appear at the Arthur Street Lagoon in Memramcook, where there
were 5 noted. The photo of a male shows the brilliant blue bill and the ruddy
coloured plumage to give it its name. Mitch also got a photo of a RED FOX kit [Renard roux] that
must have been born fairly recently.
** Anna Tucker visited the Irishtown Nature
Park on Monday to find Trailing Arbutus, aka MAY FLOWER {Fleur de mai}, starting
to bloom. She also got a photo of the lake from the
spillway.
** Brian and Annette Stone took a walk in
Mapleton Park on Monday to note RED-BERRIED ELDER starting to prepare for
blooming, a pair of WOOD DUCKS [Canard branchu] are still in the pond there. I wish now we
had put a wood duck box there which may have interested them. They also came
across a flock of approximately 15 CEDAR WAXWINGS [Jaseur
d’Amérique], a NORTHERN FLICKER [Pic
flamboyant] posed, and as expected, Brian did not miss a SOLAR HALO. They
also heard SPRING PEEPERS and WOOD FROGS which should explode with the warm
weather predicted for this week.
** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a HERMIT THRUSH [Grive solitaire] settling in to Hay Island on
Monday.
