** Roger LeBlanc spent a very productive hour and a half around the Cap Brule lagoon on Wednesday, and had some observations that many of us may want to check out. Lots of birds were there with fourteen species of ducks present, a blend of the dabblers and divers. One nice find was a male EURASIAN WIGEON [Canard siffleur] which was found in the open ponds on the marsh, not in the lagoon. It was with AMERICAN WIGEONS [Canard d'Amérique]. There were also five BRANT [Bernache cravant] there along with a GREAT BLUE HERON [Grand Héron] and a male NORTHERN HARRIER [Busard Saint-Martin] cruising the marsh. Special among the gulls there was one adult GLAUCOUS GULL [Goéland bourgmestre] and a sub adult Glaucous Gull which was going out of either its first or second winter plumage. What a nice selection of spring specialties on our doorstep.
** Gordon Rattray comments that he didn't have time to explore on Wednesday, but a handsome cock RING-NECKED PHEASANT [Faisan de Colchide] dropped into his yard for a thirty minute foraging session.
** Dan Hicks has a pond on his Irishtown Rd. property just north of the Tankville School and Royal Oaks subdivision. He reports that a bonded pair of HOODED MERGANSERS [Harle couronné] have been on the pond for a week now and some others have dropped by as well as MALLARD [Canard colvert] ducks. He also noted a GREAT BLUE HERON [Grand Héron] on the pond for the first time on Wednesday morning. The resident deer herd varies from three to eight and a RED FOX [Renard roux] is a daily drop by visitor.
** Lois Budd reports that a male PURPLE FINCH [Roselin pourpré] that arrived on March 03 finally had a female friend drop by on Wednesday. Lois also had a visit from a DARK-EYED JUNCO [Junco ardoisé] on Wednesday.
