Daryl Doucette spotted a SANDHILL CRANE
[Grue du Canada] in a field off the South Barnaby Road on Monday. This
is located between Rogersville and Quarryville. Daryl saw it in a field on the
south side of the road just where the South Barnaby Road and the Semiwagon Road
intersect. It was an adult bird and he heard it vocalize before flying off. It
seems like Sandhill Cranes have been showing up in the Rogersville area and
staying for extended periods, so this one could be interesting to check out
further.
** There’s been a HARRIS'S SPARROW [Bruant à
face noire] visiting the feeder of Albert Godin in Saint-Leolin since
mid-January. Carmella Melanson visited it on January 23rd and got a photo of it
in its non-breeding winter plumage. Carmella and Leo-Paul visited it again on
April 30th and got a photo of it still there, but now in its summer breeding
plumage. This is an unusual set of photos to get of a provincially rare bird
that stays all winter at the same feeder yard and stays long enough to see it to
change into breeding plumage before it would be expected to head back to its
expected breeding territory in North Western Canada.
** Aldo Dorio got a nice photo of a sharply plumaged
male NORTHERN PINTAIL in breeding plumage in Tabusintac
to note its sleek lines and blue bill with black centre line.
